This port was done a while ago by Zx-81 (http://zx81.zx81.free.fr/serendipity/index.php?/categories/157-OpenSonic); he recommends overclocking a bit. If I have time, I'll try to make a faster version if possible.

I guess this is not related to the port, but this is VERY SLOW on Rebirth at 600 Mhz. A shame, seeing that the actual Sonic runs perfectly on emulators.
